After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Covey served with distinction as a Navy orthopedic surgeon, making multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as a leader of Marine Corps far-forward surgical teams responsible for saving the lives and limbs of soldiers severely wounded on the battlefield. For his service, Dr. Covey was decorated with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Award for Excellence in Military Medicine—an award given to the nation’s top military physician.
