Meet Natasha
I am a general and acute care surgeon in northern California with over a decade of leadership experience. I have been a board member of a physician corporation (private practice group), a perioperative medical director, chair of hospital surgery, and most recently a hospital clinician wellness director…all while maintaining a busy private practice at a community hospital. In summer 2024 I shifted my career toward emergency general surgery, which has allowed me a more controllable schedule to spend time with my family and pursue some non-clinical interests.
My Coaching Philosophy
For me, coaching is the practice of fostered revelation. Thoughtful and focused inquiry in a neutral setting can help us find our own answers. But first we have to define the question. My goal as a coach is that at the end of every session you learn something new about yourself. At the end of our coaching journey you should have determined your core values and strengths and feel confident you will use them to navigate the complicated paths of being a physician, a partner, a parent, or a child (really all of them, all at once).
Physician Coaching Specialties:
- Transition to Practice
- Physician Wellness
- Managing Aging/Elderly Parents
How Did I Get Here? - More about Natasha Bir, MD, MHS, FACS
During the pandemic I noted that I was working harder but not with greater satisfaction, and my growth had plateaued. The practice of medicine was becoming even more onerous, stressful, and at times treacherous. At the same time, I faced the reality of the “sandwich” generation as I navigated caring for young children and elderly parents while still trying to achieve a satisfactory professional life. Coaching was a way for me to use my experience to support my colleagues and other surgeons–particularly women. I received my coaching certification from an ICF-accredited 9 month course. Since 2022, I’ve coached a number of my colleagues as well as early career surgeons through American College of Surgeons and Association of Women Surgeons.
