I’ll bet you have a mentor…
Hi Community:
My vision is that every surgeon is working with a coach…
… someone who can help us reflect, plan, and hold us accountable for what we say we’re going to accomplish. They won’t break our thumbs if we don’t pay up or even act disappointed if we don’t meet our goal, but they will support us with flexibility and an open mind to get us where we want to go. While that may sound like mentoring, coaching plays a different and equally important role.
A recent publication in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Coaching, Separate from Mentoring, May Provide Skill Acquisition, Improved Well-Being, and Career Advancement in Orthopaedic Surgery, highlighted a few of the differences.
