Pump the brakes on your week and take 10 minutes to make your life as a surgeon just a little better…
Jeff welcomes to the podcast urologist and physician coach, Kelly Casperson, MD.
As surgeons, we often deal with the concept of permission. We needed permission to get into med school, residency, and our first job. We go along for years thinking that’s the way the world works, when in actuality we can do whatever we want to do (even if that’s outside of the traditional education model we grew up with).
Because we are hard-wired to think that’s the way the world works, we often wait for permission to change jobs, take a trip, start a new hobby, or follow our passions. But the fact is that no one is coming to give us that permission – it has to come from within.
What steps does Kelly suggest we do to give ourselves permission?
- Step 1 – Write it down. Start a journal or simply write down what you want to do. The simple act of getting it down on paper can help you better visualize the goal.
Step 2 – Talk with a colleague or coach. Discussing your goals and potential roadblocks with a colleague or coach will help you gain perspective.
Most importantly, give yourself permission to do something new!
Guest: Dr. Kelly Casperson
Dr. Casperson is a urologist practicing in Washington State, who is interested in the power of the mind and science to change our views of sexuality. After many years in practice she had a life changing patient that made her curious to learn everything she could about female sexual wellness. After learning everything she could, she realized the brain is the biggest sex organ and pursued a life coaching certificate to coach people about their limiting beliefs and goals with their intimate lives.
From that she has created online courses teaching women the fundamentals of their anatomy and physiology, discussing their limiting beliefs, and normalizing their normal female sexual function, to empower them to live their best love lives.
Through pursuit of certification through the Life Coach School, she now combines her medical knowledge with mind-work to help women with surgical precision. She coaches female surgeons to become the best version of themselves at https://commonthreadwomensurgeons.com and the facebook group THE COMMON THREAD: https://www.facebook.com/groups/390563148592697
