Hi Community:
Our best practice looks different day-to-day based on factors that limit or enhance our ability to access peak performance. When you’re practicing your best…what is in your control? What is out of your control?
Recently a coach training participant, Joseph M. Kaczmarczyk, DO, MPH, MBA, shared an assessment, Positive Intelligence, which I’m finding helpful to drive self-awareness and growth. The assessment describes 10 saboteurs that represent “internal enemies” or habits of our mind that can work against us.
My results returned Victim / Pleaser, which the assessment defines as follows:
- Victim: “Emotional and temperamental as a way to gain attention and affection. An extreme focus on internal feelings, particularly painful ones. Martyr streak.” I can relate to hearing the voice of particularly painful emotions and the Martyr. I have also put in work noticing where I am not a victim.
- Pleaser: “Indirectly tries to gain acceptance and affection by helping, pleasing, rescuing, or flattering others. Loses sight of own needs and becomes resentful as a result.” I have made great strides to recognize that my core value of service needs to be balanced with my own needs.
These assessment results have guided me to reflect on the following: these and other saboteurs are louder when I feel more stressed, tired or disappointed. Recognizing the more dominant ones like the system is conspiring against me, I can control my response and reaction. When I don’t, my health and well-being is impacted.
I encourage you to take the Positive Intelligence Assessment and then email me what you think. What do you take away from the results?
