Pump the brakes on your week and take 10 minutes to make your life as a surgeon just a little better…
Jeff welcomes to the podcast orthopaedic surgeon Darin Davidson.
Polyvagal theory describes how we experience life as humans at the most foundational level. Using that information, it then provides a very actionable framework to use to adjust our physiology to match our needs in the current moment.
An example of how this works that everyone can relate to is traffic. Sometimes we come upon traffic and nothing phases us. Other times, we can become annoyed or aggravated. If the traffic is the same in both cases, what’s causing the different reactions? In short, the difference lies in our physiological state.
What steps does Darin suggest we do to practice polyvagal theory?
- Step 1 – Be aware of your physiological state. A good way to do this is to practice breathing.
- Step 2 – Take steps to change your physiological state if you find yourself becoming aggravated.
Most importantly, PRACTICE wellness!
