Dear Community,
The SurgeonMasters’ mission is to empower healthcare professionals around the world to make positive and lasting improvements in their lives.
The interpretation of this mission is unique to each one of us, and its significance may evolve from day to day.
I’d like to reflect on the importance of some community resources we recently shared, particularly those about peer support.
Although some of us have experienced the incredible benefits of peer support, most of us don’t want to be on the receiving end of peer support for tough, yet understandable reasons.
8% of our community will face a lawsuit this year.* Being sued is a major blow, especially when we are doing our best. Peer support is an excellent resource that can help you deal with the negative impacts of a malpractice suit.
You and your attorneys don’t need to worry. We don’t want to hear about the details of your case. We want to discuss how you are doing and how many others have dealt with similarly tough experiences in the best possible way. Peer support can also be helpful in many other stressful situations.
Please share these resources with colleagues and let’s educate ourselves before something happens.
While coaching is not the same as peer support, there is crossover and both roles rely on similar skills like non-judgment, empathy, and a deeper level of listening than we engage in regularly.
As we continue to challenge preconceptions about coaching, I invite you to explore the latest resources available within the SurgeonMasters Community. Feel free to share your thoughts and insights with me at [email protected] – your feedback is part of my coaching process.
Together, let’s empower ourselves and our colleagues to navigate the complexities of our profession and make meaningful strides toward lasting improvements.
