Like many of you, I was a blank DNA slate at birth. Growing up should have been easy for me…but it wasn’t. I was always looking forward to a better future; “when I get older,” “when I become a doctor,” “when I make enough money.” Instead, I became disillusioned, never content, and frequently burned out. It didn’t help that our healthcare system takes advantage of people like us, often squeezing everything out of us, including the joy in what we do.
However, over the last 10 years I have come a long way. To be very open, I owe it all to coaching, the people involved in coaching, and the community that we have built. Therefore, I find myself reflecting with gratitude and optimism for a new year that brings new opportunities for growth, learning, and deeper connection with others like-minded in changing the culture. I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead for our SurgeonMasters community.
One of the ways we grow is through shared experiences, and events will be a meaningful focus in 2026. I’m especially looking forward to the SurgeonMasters Book Club YouTurn, hosted by Muyibat Adelani.
I’m also excited to expand our group coaching offerings this year. Group coaching creates a powerful environment where insight, accountability, and shared wisdom come together. There is something uniquely impactful about learning alongside colleagues who understand the pressures and privileges of a healthcare practice.
A central goal for 2026 is to create more opportunities for learning, community, and culture change. Connection and community matters—for wellness, performance, and longevity in our careers. When we share our challenges and personal growth with others, we initiate and accelerate the process, and have a much greater potential for changing the culture of medicine to create more rewarding, satisfying, and sustainable careers.
I want this year to be shaped by you as well.
- What do you want or need to learn?
- How do you want or need to grow?
- What conversations would serve you best this year?
Send me questions and suggestions. I always appreciate the opportunity to connect.
Here’s to positive growth, supportive community, and creating the culture you want to see in 2026!
