Dear Community,
I recently felt like a kid in a candy shop.
I had the opportunity to interview Richard Boyatzis, PhD, for the SurgeonMasters Podcast, and I was genuinely excited like I haven’t been in awhile.
I’ve been a longtime admirer of Dr. Boyatzis’ research and the impact his work has had on leadership, emotional intelligence, and change management. In many ways, his research has helped shape the philosophy behind SurgeonMasters and influenced the framework of The 8 PRACTICEs of Highly Successful Surgeons.
Our conversation centered on what allows people to thrive – not just perform. Dr. Boyatzis’ work reminds us that lasting success isn’t driven by willpower alone. It comes from aligning our daily actions with a deeper purpose while staying meaningfully connected to the people around us.
Two themes from our conversation especially resonated with me because they’re values we strive to cultivate in this community every day:
- Purpose – Knowing your “why” creates resilience, clarity, and energy, especially during challenging seasons.
- Relationships – We simply do better together. Growth accelerates when we’re surrounded by people who challenge, encourage, and support us.
I encourage you to listen to this episode of the SurgeonMasters Podcast and listen to the full episode when we share it in the near future.
As we continue building these habits together, I also hope you’ll join us for our next 8 PRACTICEs event on August 27, where we’ll explore Time / Life Management Using Rhythm. Rather than trying to squeeze more into each day, we’ll discuss how creating intentional rhythms can help you lead, operate, and live with greater focus and fulfillment.
Finally, don’t forget to check out this month’s community resources. I hope they provide practical ideas you can begin applying immediately.
Thank you for being part of the SurgeonMasters community. It’s a privilege to learn and grow alongside each of you.
